Raspberry Chia Seed Jam

This delicious Raspberry Chia Seed Jam is naturally sweetened and made with only 4 ingredients!

Raspberry season is coming to an end here in Ohio, but it’s not too late to give this Raspberry Chia Seed Jam recipe a try! It’s an excellent alternative to the store bought kind that is loaded with sugar and who-knows-what other ingredients.

This 4 ingredient jam recipe is so incredibly simple to make, and there are no extensive canning methods needed. I promise!

What exactly is jam, you ask? Jam, not to be confused with jelly, is basically a thick mixture of fruit and sugar that’s cooked until the fruit is very soft and almost formless. It is less stiff than jelly and has less chunks of fruits than preserves since it is made by crushing the fruit while cooking.

How to Keep Raspberries Fresh

We go through raspberries like water in our house, and while it is a fact that they’re hard to keep fresh, there are a few ways to prolong the lives of these deliciously sweet, yet tart, little guys:

  1. Store them unwashed if you aren’t going to eat them immediately. Only wash the amount of berries you plan on eating right before you eat them.
  2. Keep the berries cool by storing them dry and in the breathable container that they came in, but try not to keep them in the coldest part of your refrigerator as to avoid excess moisture.
  3. Freeze them.  If you bought more than you can eat (again, not in our case!), freeze them. Make sure to wash them first, and lay them out on paper towels to remove the excess moisture. Then, lay them on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and put them into your freezer until they’re frozen. You can then store the frozen berries in an airtight plastic zip bag.  You can use the frozen raspberries for smoothies, in any baked goods, or on top of your yogurt (my favorite!). The berries should keep from 10 to 12 months in the freezer. (source)

Can you say, hello Toast Tuesday?? Yes, it’s a thing now…I love using this Raspberry Chia Seed Jam as a layer on top of gf toast with natural peanut butter and almond milk yogurt. Sweet, salty, wholesome, and deeelish! Move over peanut butter & jelly – this “adult” version has now taken your place!

Why Add Chia Seeds?

First off, chia seeds have a natural gelatin ability, so adding them to your jam recipe will help to thicken thicken your jam naturally. Also, chia seeds are rich in fiber and help to keep your body full and energized for hours. They’re loaded with fiber, protein, omega-3 fatty acids and many other micronutrients.

In my opinion, this jam recipe has the perfect amount of “sweet”, and with only 2 grams of sugar per serving (plus a whole lot of flavor), you can’t go wrong! Enjoy!!
